The Hackney Campaign
Spread the Word
We launched a Crowdfunding page to raise funds for initial legal advice to challenge the 5% cuts in April to SEND. In less than 3 days we reached 100 percent of our stretch target. You can view it here. With your support we can try to set a precedent, not only for Hackney, but for the rest of the country. Please follow us on Facebook and Twitter @SENDcrisisHack. Send a message to friends on WhatsApp or in FB messenger about the campaign.

Francisco de la Mora kindly created and donated this picture as an homage to all supporters who came together to defend the rights of children with special educational needs & disabilities in Hackney at our Torchlit Rally.

7 Tips for Successful CampaigningWhat's Your Goal?... It sounds obvious but over time goals change and it's easy to lose sight of what your objectives are. Re-evaluate what is important to everyone and keep focussed on set goals. Prioritise. A monthly news summary for members or meeting can provide an opportunity to assess how things are going.
Get Organised... Long email trails quickly become impossible to manage and follow. Consider using an app like www.slack.com to stay in touch with one another. You can set-up different channels for all your needs and keep conversations focussed and easier to keep track of. You can turn notifications on or off and instant message one another. You can also upload files and set-up a forum for your supporters and more.
Social Media...The majority of interest generated comes through Facebook. We rely on our friends, schools and supporters to spread the word. To do that you have to stay in touch with your community in as many ways as possible: a website, Twitter, Facebook, Whatsapp, email, your school's social channels, texts. It’s important to remember that not everyone is on social media or email. Sometimes you just need to get our there and leaflet to make sure everyone who needs help gets it. Keep everything up to date. Images are key to a good campaign. Always try to post with pictures. Tell a friend... Share what you know with another parent. Ask them to pass the message on to someone else they know. Word of mouth is powerful. |
You Can’t Do Everything...We are all parents managing jobs and children with SEND, along with all the additional challenges that this brings such as hospital appointments, reviews, assessments etc. As SEND parents we’re already used to going the extra mile for our children - you already have amazing resilience and strength which you can harness to turn negatives into positives. Sometimes things just don’t get done, don't worry it always works out. Other parents understand and are always there to step in and help. You can do.
Use your Talents... All of our campaign team have unique skills and talents. We naturally fell into using the skills and knowledge we already have to support the campaign. This included skills in social media, law, public speaking, copy, design, photography, knowledge about SEND and more. We constantly learn and support one another and have as a result become better together. |
